What shouldn’t I do after deleting my Gmail account?
After you delete your Google Account, we strongly recommend that you don’t use a burner (temporary) email address to set up another Google Account. If you sign up for a new Google Account, anyone who knows your old email address can still access the information in that account. In some cases, if you’ve used Gmail at work or other websites and apps where you entered personal info like credit card numbers, that info stays visible in your former accounts until you delete it.

This helps protect your account and other users.
Closing your account just disables it, so someone might be able to keep using it (if they know your username). If you want to make sure no one can use your account without permission, delete it instead. See What happens when an account is deleted for more info.
Some products like YouTube depend on users being signed in with their real names, or work best with a profile picture, which means that deleting the Google Account will remove all of this information as well. Other products like Chrome Sync require additional steps before an account can be deleted because we care about making sure that only you are signing into these services if choose to do so.
