Can I retrieve emails from a deleted Gmail account?

Answer

If you have not emptied the trash since deleting an email, you can recover it by going to mail.google.com and searching for your missing emails.

Yes, you can retrieve emails from a deleted Gmail account. If you are asking this question, it is because you have decided to delete or remove your Gmail account and now want to get back all the messages from that account.

In order to recover your old emails in Gmail, firstly, log in using the username or email ID of the deleted/removed Gmail account on google.com and click on “My Account” link at top right corner of the page. On clicking My Account option you will be directed to Google Accounts page:

Click on “Delete your account or services” link given under Personal info & privacy section. The screen will take you below screen where there will be an option like Remove products next to your account. Click on that option:

You will be directed a page where you need to select “Delete Gmail” and then click on the red link Delete selected services (in case you are starting from step 1). If you want to delete all products, click on Cancel instead of Delete Gmail so that you can start from step 2 again. Do not forget to uncheck the check box labeled Delete Google+, Blogger or other Google service profile information and data linked with this account when prompted during deletion process.

Note: While removing your Gmail account, do not use any search engine like Yahoo …etc in order to login into your deleted or removed Gmail Account for deleting it immediately otherwise you will get an error which says “Sorry, this account has been disabled”.

Once you have followed above steps and clicked on Delete selected services or Cancel link as per your choice for deleting all products from your Google Account. Now log in to your existing Gmail account and you can view the screen like below:

Note: If you deleted more than one email address of your Google Account then all emails linked with each email ID will be listed under “All Mail” label. For example if two email addresses are linked with your Google account (i.e., [email protected] & [email protected]) then there are two folders i.e. Inbox and All Mail in Gmail account.

Note: If you don’t see all your emails listed in Inbox folder, then open any other email (with the same or different email ID) and go to “All Mail” label and there you can view your deleted emails as well if they are not deleted or removed already from Google’s database of mail messages.
