How To Cancel Godaddy Domain Name and Get Full Refund
Whether you’re consolidating your domains into one account, moving to another provider, or otherwise just need to cancel a domain name registered through GoDaddy, we have step-by-step instructions for canceling your domain registration.
Log in to your GoDaddy account and find the Domains tab. Locate the domain whose registration you wish to cancel: Click on the name of the domain that you want to cancel and then click Cancel Registration at the top-right corner of the page. Select one of these options as appropriate for your situation: If you are canceling a Domain Privacy Protection (DPR) registration, select Remove my private whois information from this domain – this is required before we can update our records with any new registrar to return your domain back into the public whois database. If you are canceling a Registration Protection (RP) registration, select Cancel this order as well as Remove my private whois information from this domain. To have your refund processed, click Refund Now at the bottom of the page to log in to PayPal for payment processing.
Important Notes When Cancelling Domain Names: Some domains, such as .com and .net domains that were registered with us prior to April 15, 2002, must be canceled by phone due to contractual agreements we have with other registries regarding those older TLDs. If you are trying to cancel one of these domains and you do not see the Cancel Registration button on the Domains tab, please visit our Domain Help page for additional assistance.
All domain terms are subject to a 5-day grace period that begins on the day of registration or renewal and ends at 11:59 PM PST on the 5th business day. Visit our Domain Renewals section to view domains whose renewal dates fall within this window. To be eligible for a prorated refund, you must cancel your domain name prior to 11:59 PM PST on its renewal date. Please note that we do not prorate refunds based upon when you submitted your cancellation request; only whether it was before or after 11:59 PM PST on your renewal date. For example, if your domain is set to renew on August 10, and you cancel the domain on August 5 at 2:00 AM PST, your refund will be prorated from August 6 (the day after the renewal date) until 11:59 PM PST on August 10.
