You can delete an email account from within your web browser by following these steps: Click on the Settings Gear icon (also known as a Hamburger Icon) in the top right corner of Gmail. Select “Settings” from the dropdown menu. Click on “Accounts and Import”. Next, click on “Delete your account or services”. Finally, confirm that you want to delete the old account by clicking “Remove Account”. Also, check out this article for more information on deleted emails. Note: If you have multiple Google accounts, the Delete Account option will not be available until all accounts are removed. You may also log into Gmail through another web browser if you wish to remove an extra signed-in account while leaving one active so that you do not have to enter your password or disable all accounts.
What happens if I delete an old account before deleting emails?
If you are still using older versions of Gmail such as the invite-only “Gmail Beta” email client, the only way to permanently remove information from G Suite is by archiving/deleting them individually. The new version of Gmail does allow users to select multiple emails and then archive or delete them at once. The following article may also help: Delete Emails. What if I forget my username/password?
If you are unable to remember your username or password, you will need to request that the account be unlocked by G Suite Support. Please have your full legal name, Google Account email address or phone number, and ID ready when contacting G Suite Support. If they have any other questions about the account they can contact you directly through one of those methods, or attempt recovery through a verification code sent directly to another email address on file for the user. You may also check out this article for more information on forgotten accounts: Recovering Forgotten Accounts Note: A locked account is not necessarily an “unused” account by default – all accounts are automatically set as locked when they first activate. Account lock is not required and can be removed by updating the account.
Once an old email account has been deleted, can it be recovered if something goes wrong?
Yes! A deleted Gmail or G Suite account cannot be deleted forever until a user with administrator rights to the domain deletes it or you disable all accounts for your organization in the Google Admin console. If you accidentally delete an active Gmail or G Suite account, please contact G Suite Support through one of our community options so that this may be fixed as quickly as possible. There are three ways to recover an old user: 1) If the “Delete Account” feature was used when deleting the account, it will automatically appear under “Disabled users” in your Google Admin console. 2) If the “Delete Account” feature was not used, but there are other users that you can confirm to have deleted the account on purpose (for example, accounts of a former employee), then you will need to use the Directory Synchronization tool mentioned above. 3) If any other user is able to log into the disabled account after it has been disabled, it may be possible for them to re-enable it. To avoid this possibility, ensure that all changes made by deleting an old email address have been updated on active accounts before disabling or archiving old email addresses.
How long until deleted mail stops appearing in older clients?
It should take a maximum of 15 minutes for other account users to receive the update that your email address has been removed. After this time period, any emails sent/received after your deletion will no longer appear on their client and you will not be able to log into your old account with any devices or web browsers associated with the email address (even if you try resetting or removing signed-in accounts). This is because Gmail/G Suite uses Directory Synchronization to push updates about changes throughout the entire domain – one user’s change could 1) cause relevant information about another user’s account to disappear, 2) cause spam messages sent by that user to not reach the intended recipient, and 3) cause messages to stop being delivered to users who don’t expect or plan for new email addresses they didn’t create.
If you have deleted your old address but are still receiving emails at that address, please contact G Suite Support through one of our community options so that this can be resolved as quickly as possible. If a user is able to log in with an old account after it has been deleted/archived/disabled, their account will need to be re-enabled by contacting Google support directly. If any other user is able to log into the disabled account after it has been disabled, it may be possible for them to re-enable it. To avoid this possibility, ensure that all changes made by deleting an old email address have been updated on active accounts before disabling or archiving old email addresses. To disable or archive several users at once, visit the Mail Settings page by going to your domain’s Admin console and choosing Mail Settings from the left-hand menu (or simply hovering over your domain name below your primary navigation). Scroll down to find the “Mail Forwarding” section, select the checkbox beside each of the user(s) whose accounts you wish to delete/archive, and click Delete / Archive.
How do I enable a disabled account?
Please follow this process: 1) Visit https://admin.google.com/edda/, which is our Directory Synchronization tool. 2) Click Enable next to the user whose account you wish to enable. 3) Set up a new password and LATER log in with that email address and a new password when prompted. 4) After logging in, immediately change the old password. This will ensure that no one else can log into your old account with any devices or web browsers associated with the email address (even if you try resetting or removing signed-in accounts). Directory Synchronization is an important tool used by Google Apps/G Suite administrators to keep users’ information current across all of their domains. For more information about how Directory Synchronization works and why it’s important, please see our help article here. If you have deleted your old address but are still receiving emails at the address, please contact G Suite Support through one of our community options so that this can be resolved as quickly as possible.
