Message tracking and reporting is not available for Teams mobile applications. However, you can still stop/start message delivery to your phone using Outlook or the Teams client on PC, Mac and mobile devices.

Log in to Microsoft 365 Admin Center (aka Office 365 portal) with an account that has administrative privileges in your Office 365 tenant Go to Users > Active users In each user’s profile, click Enable Message Delivery Type or paste the phone number into the “Mobile number” field Enter a friendly name in the “Delivery name” field Optionally, you can add any text that will be displayed alongside your phone number within each team message For example Work Phone (+15109876755), Home Number (+15109876755) Click Save

To resume delivery to your phone number, just repeat the above steps. If you need to unblock your phone number from messaging temporarily, follow these steps:

Log in to Microsoft 365 Admin Center (aka Office 365 portal) with an account that has administrative privileges in your Office 365 tenant Go to Users > Active users In each user’s profile, click Enable Message Delivery Remove the mobile phone number from the “Mobile Number” field Click Save Repeat for all other users of Teams and IM communications endpoints where you used the same mobile number for message blocking Log out of Admin center or close browser window Restart Teams client or Outlook on PC/Mac Wait a couple of minutes and then launch Teams or Outlook again

Note: You can add a mobile phone number up to 2 times for each user in the “Mobile Number” field. If you want to block phone numbers that you have added already, contact Teams Support. We will be happy to help!

If your mailbox is on Exchange 2010 (or earlier versions), this won’t work. Please keep using Teams client and disable message delivery within it -> Click More… > Options > Disable message delivery. Use IM channel for communication instead of Teams channel. It works for team-to-team communications as well as 1:1 chats with other team members and yourself (if there are any common colleagues who haven’t blocked your number). To disable the delivery option in Teams client, go to More… > Options > Disable message delivery.

To remove or stop message delivery to your phone number, you need to use Outlook for your desktop. In “Outlook on the Web” (formerly known as Outlook Web App) you can only start message tracking for mobile phones and change delivery options:

Log in to Office 365 with an account that has administrative privileges in your Office 365 tenant Click mail icon in upper left corner > Options > Settings > Phone Click Delete next to a phone number > Delete This will soft-block your registered phone number from receiving messages. The end result is similar to when you enable Message Delivery above – all messages are stored locally and won’t be delivered unless they are explicitly sent again by a team member. To resume delivery of messages, just repeat this process and delete your phone number from the Phone settings.

Note: you can add a mobile phone number up to 2 times for each user in the “Phone” section of the Outlook Web App. If you want to stop message delivery to your phone number, contact Teams Support. We will be happy to help!

If you are receiving too many emails (more than 500) in a mailbox per day, we recommend using an alternative option – Health service or Office 365 Operations Management Suite (OMS). You can also turn off email notifications from Microsoft Teams using these steps:
