How To Delete a User as a Family Manager on PS4 – Update 6.0

There is no way to disable the family feature. The only way to change what your child plays is for them to log in with their own PSN account. Every time they go offline they have to re-download all their games from the cloud.

This process can take a long time depending on how big their library of games is, and when they’re not online they can’t play any game at all (not even a single player) unless it’s stored locally on their hard drive.

Sony has issued no statement regarding whether or not this feature will be available at launch nor has there been any information given as to whether or not this feature will even be available in the future (beyond 2014 or 2015).

I am a parent who has been using this feature for months now and there have already been issues with it. Games that were purchased before we started managing our son’s account through his PS4 never actually downloaded to his hard drive, even after we manually downloaded them which took hours because of how long it takes to download an entire game when you don’t own one the physical copy. Now all of these games are grayed out on his ps4 menu making them unusable unless they re-download from the cloud at a later time, however, some of those games cannot be re-downloaded because they’re no longer supported by sony/the publisher yet my son still wants access to them.

Halo The Master Chief Collection is a prime example of this. We signed into his account today only to find out that not one, but all 14 game discs had been deactivated and he can’t plays any of them.

This is also impacting other players who have purchased this collection. It being reported on Reddit that Microsoft has acknowledged the problem and they are working with sony on it, however, sony has given no such statement nor do they offer any support when you contact them (on their forums or through Twitter). I was giving information regarding what games are unavailable for him to re-download and why, as well as some solutions they may be able to try but the moderators refused to let me post these suggestions here because according to them “I am not a sony employee and I have no special knowledge that the rest of you do not also possess”.

What kind of response is that? If they are doing their job as moderators then they should be promoting the customer’s ability to give information to each other, not shooting down every idea brought forward. This could take days or weeks for this problem to even be acknowledged by sony at the very least and until then our son will not be able to play any of his games.

I would rather avoid my child playing online altogether because there is so much content available on youtube/Vimeo right now for children which can easily keep them entertained without being exposed to such harsh language (even though I also know what sites he visits, that’s still better then him hearing it from other kids while they play online).

I understand that there are some merits to this feature, such as being able to track your child’s activity for reporting purposes (even though many users have reported that this information is not available on the website and sony has never responded regarding these issues). However, I will not be using family manager because if you choose to purchase a game for your child and it’s removed from their hard drive then all of those hours of work have been wasted. If sony does provide any way to turn off or disable this feature in the future but currently offers no such thing at launch , I see it similar to EA Access which was just recently released right before the launch of ps4. It is an ongoing service that will require upkeep and maintenance, as well as the possibility of new content being added to it. I think its safe to assume that this feature is not meant to be released on day one (and remain unchanged for at least a year or two).

I believe it’s fraudulent for sony to advertise this feature on their website as “available on launch day” when there has been no information given with regards to when they expect this feature will actually be available. As someone who has purchased ps4 for their child, i would like more details about what kind of communication sony plans on using and how customers will be notified if there are problems/changes with this service in the future so we can decide whether or not its something that we want to continue using or not.
