Why does Apple have a cash App?

Apple has rolled out what they call a “cash app”. Some people are under the impression that it allows them to make payments directly from their bank account. I can see why some people might think this, but in actuality the cash app is just for sending money (and receiving) through Venmo like transactions and a store service where you can buy / sell Bitcoin. The only way to access your bank account is by linking it as a source so that you can then transfer funds between your linked account and the cash App’s equivalent of an online checking account called a Vault. Why would Apple want to create such an unnecessary App when we already have PayPal , Square Cash, Venmo and other methods to send and receive money between friends? I think it is because Apple wants a piece of the US$10 million a day in transaction fees that Venmo earns.

What do you have to gain from using the cash App?

If you sign up for cash App with your Apple ID, that is all you need because then they can follow your every move on anything with an Apple logo on it. Just like Google does… Even if you delete the app, they still know what apps are installed on your iPhone and iPad etc.. They also know your location, what you watch on television and who knows what else. I have an iPhone and iPad with completely different Apple ID’s for my personal stuff that I do not want connected to my work Apple accounts.

What is the cash App?

The cash App has created an online account that can link to a bank account or credit card in order to transfer money between people through their vault. This money can then be transferred into another type of currency called Bitcoin which is listed at whatever price they say it is worth at that particular time. Only US citizens are allowed access at this point by invitation only so if you are not from the good ole U S of A then you cannot get an invite unless you know someone who can get you one and can get you into their iOS device.

Can you delete the cash App?

Apple has made it very simple to sign up for an account with a link to your bank, but not so easy to shut it down. The problem is that Apple makes it impossible for iPhone users to delete the App in any way other than uninstalling everything on the phone including all apps, then resetting the entire phone back to original factory settings (which erases everything) and then set up as a new phone without signing in with iCloud on a new phone. Of course, you have no option but to use the same Apple ID that was used previously because of course there is no way around this unless you just don’t want an iPhone in the first place. It is possible to perhaps delete your Apple ID from iTunes using a computer while logged into the same Apple ID on another device before completely deleting everything from your iPhone or iPad, but this is not for the faint of heart. If you do not have time or patience to go down this path then you are effectively forced to use whichever App that you signed up for and cannot turn it off unless you want to buy an Android phone with no way back. I am pretty sure if I had a Blackberry phone then they could just find me through my Google account login? Oh well, guess I will never know…

Conclusion

Apple has created a cash app on iOS devices (IPads & iPhones etc.) and there is literally no way to remove it from your Apple device. They make it impossible to delete the app and even if you do then they still know what bank account or credit card you linked earlier on for money transactions. I wonder why would Apple create a service that nobody asked for? Oh yea, because they can… So in conclusion, if you are using an iPhone STOP USING IT NOW OR WHO IS TO SAY WHERE YOU WILL FIND YOUR INFORMATION LATER ON WHEN APPLE DECIDES TO RELEASE YOUR INFORMATION (for example when they get subpoenaed by the FBI?) Nobody will be able to help you because let’s face it, iPhones and iPads are amazing devices… It is just too bad that only US citizens can use them.

Note: I am not anti-Apple or saying that Apple gave away my information to the FBI for example, I was just putting it out there as a warning to the general public because I think everyone should have control over their own personal information. Everyone knows what Google is but people don’t know and understand all of Apple’s features… So I guess this was an education on that front but if anyone has anything else to add please leave a comment below!

I personally do not trust any kind of cash app because even though they say that they keep your info secured, you never know how long they are going to be around. If you want my advice just stick with physical cash and only use digital money as an emergency backup plan or maybe if you are traveling abroad to pay for your hotel.
