Can I reactivate my WhatsApp account after deleting it?

Answer

WhatsApp will deactivate the account and it gets permanently deleted within 30 days. If you wish to reactivate it on your other Android/iOS device, you have to do so within that time period.

Is it possible to uninstall/delete the WhatsApp application from my mobile only to install it back again within a short period (a month or two maybe), without loosing all my contacts and chats? I would like to do this because I need to use another app for a while, but then come back and continue using WhatsApp. If there is any other way you know of that will save me time, please let me know! Thanks!

This answer closely relates to: Can i reactivate account if deleted with phone number?

You can install WhatsApp as many times as you want on your smartphone or tablet. In fact, everytime you open up your device’s app menu and look for “WhatsApp”, it re-installs the messaging app onto your device. The app itself is very lightweight, hence doesn’t take a lot of space or phone memory.

So if you’re only switching from WhatsApp to another messaging service for about a month or so, then I don’t see why uninstalling and installing WhatsApp again will cause problems with your chat history or contacts. Simply open up new conversations with your friends again and start chatting away!

However, if you’re switching from WhatsApp for good and definitely don’t want to use it again in the future (and I’m pretty sure you wouldn’t), then there is a better option.

In fact, messaging apps such as Line, Viber or Telegram also support cloud backups of your messages and contacts. So even if they switch servers or apps entirely, their data will be able to restore itself onto your smartphone once again. You can download these messaging applications via an app store on your device or by visiting their webpages using a desktop computer’s web browser.

Tap Settings > Account > Two-step verification. Tap Get security code . Enter your phone number and tap Send code . When you receive the security code on your phone, enter it in the next screen. You will have to set a backup method (described above), which will allow you regain access to your account if you lose access to the phone numbers or email address associated with it.

My phone got lost/stolen: How can I get into my account?

Unfortunately this is a limitation of WhatsApp and we cannot provide that information at this time. You may want to consider using an alternative secure messaging solution like Telegram if you don’t expect to return to WhatsApp in the near future. For security reasons, it is not possible for us to reset your account from our side, please contact Customer Support directly. To ensure no one else but you can access your new number, change your security code immediately (tap Settings > Account > Two-step verification ). Without your mobile phone number or email address set as a backup method, nobody will be able to log into your account.

I forgot my security code: What can I do?

Tap Settings > Account > Two-step verification . Tap Forgot code ?. Enter your phone number and tap Send code . When you receive the security code on your phone, enter it in the next screen. The Three Stages of Two-Step Verification with WhatsApp–and How They’ll Change Your Life – The Atlantic It’s worth noting that we don’t store your backup methods, just their names (like “email” or “phone number”) and the associated numbers/emails you provided. If someone were to get access to your backup methods (which we strongly encourage you not to share with anyone) they would need your phone numbers or email address for two-step verification as well, and only after successfully entering one of these will they be able to read any messages you have received since enabling this extra layer of security.

What if I change my phone number?

You will have to reregister using that phone number and request a new code . However, instead of receiving the 6-digit code via text message, WhatsApp will send the code through an automated voice call over the phone – so you will have to enter it verbally. You will then be asked for your backup method and a new code will be sent.

Why does WhatsApp call me when I register my account with them?

To make sure you actually are the person registering the account, since SMS messages can easily be forwarded and spoofed, they only accept registrations done through automated voice calls (not via chats or VoIP apps). Unfortunately in some countries this service is limited or unavailable. If that is the case, simply use an alternative phone number instead of yours to register your account.

What if I change my email address?

You’ll need to log into your current account on the app, go to Settings > Account > Two-step verification and enable a new email address under Backup methods . WhatsApp will send you another security code via SMS message; enter it after enabling your new backup method.

Can I delete my WhatsApp account before deleting my number?

Yes, but if you did that by mistake, or forgot to update your backup methods, just contact Customer Support through their online form for help recovering access to your account.

I am using a mobile device. How can I enable two-step verification?

You can use the WhatsApp Web app to enable two-step verification.

When I receive a call on my number from WhatsApp it rings always twice, apart from when someone is calling me for the first time and then there it only rings once?

This behavior may change in newer versions of WhatsApp. It used to be that your phone would ring twice if you had not called the other party before (at least where I live). In more recent versions, each party will simply see incoming voice calls with one ring . This may help differentiate between new connections and automated messages.

I enabled 2FA on my account but now every time I send or receive a message, both participants are asked to confirm by entering their code. Why is this happening?

You probably just enabled a 2FA for your account. It’s now secure and you should have no problems with it in the future.
