If you have a Gmail/Google email address then there is no need to contact a support service. You can delete your Google account right on the official website and get rid of it once and forever. After logging into your Google account (the URL is https://gmail.com/ ) go through these steps:

Click on “Account”, found in the top right corner. It will open a new page with account settings, click on “Delete your account or services” (“Close your account”). Now you’ll see an intermediate window letting you know that you will lose all of your data after deleting your Google account and also have to confirm it one more time (in case if you did not do this). After clicking “Okay, delete my account”, go back to the main page of Google Account Settings by clicking “Go to my account”. On the next web page Mark all services that are linked to your email address as inactive/deleted by ticking appropriate checkboxes. You can leave just Gmail if you want, but make sure that at least one service is marked as inactive. After doing that, click on the “Delete Products” button. On the next page you’ll see the confirmation of deletion, but it only applies to services whose status was set to “Inactive”, other services will be deleted according to these steps: Checking mail from other providers: After clicking “Delete Gmail access from applications and sites” button, select all emails and delete them by pressing trash bin icon (you can leave just your main email address).

Automatically forwarding your emails from one account to another: If there are such applications then they should be removed from Google Account settings and all necessary changes made in order to use just one email account. You can find more info about this here.

Checking messages using IMAP and POP3 services: Change your mail address in email applications. This can be done using web-based versions (like Microsoft Outlook) or mobile apps like “Mail” for iPhone/iPad.

Google Takeout service allows you to get a copy of all data stored on the company’s servers as well as this information will be stored on your computer or other devices. In order to use this tool, follow these steps: [Note that it may take up to 24 hours for all data from Google account will be deleted.] 1. Go to https://takeout.google.com/settings/takeout and click the “Create Archive” button. Specify a date when you will be able to download the archive (or choose it right now) and specify, which data should be stored in your Drive account (Mail, Docs, Calendar, Contacts). Choose what should include an Archive file and press “Create Archive”.

2. When all files are ready on Google servers you’ll get an email from Google Takeout with instructions on how to download them into your computer. There is a small issue here: if you are using more than one device then downloading multiple times can result in overwriting of some files! So please make sure that after getting the email you proceed immediately and only download files into your computer. As for me, I logged into my Google account using a mobile browser and then downloaded Takeout on a desktop PC.

3. After downloading the archive you can access it in the Drive folder (located in Documents) or open it with any PDF reader like Adobe Acrobat. It contains all data such as saved passwords, messages from Gmail/chat services, calendar events, etcetera. Delete important information right away and delete the entire archive later to be sure that there are no copies left anywhere between your devices!

Note: Some users reported that they were also able to delete their Gmail account via emails sent from the Gmail support service but this method has not worked for others.
