How to Delete PayPal Account

The first time you log in to PayPal after deleting your account, a message will prompt you to sign in with a different email address. You can follow these steps to delete your existing PayPal Account: Sign in to your PayPal account and visit https://www.paypal.com/webapps/mpp/account-security (or go directly to https://www2.paypal.com/ca/cgi-bin/?&cmd=_profile-removedelete) if you are viewing this site on a mobile device. If you are redirected to a different page, choose the link which says “log in and manage your account”. Accept the agreement by ticking the box next to “I agree with all of the above terms” and check that all of your personal information is correct. Click on the button marked “remove account”. You will be prompted to enter your PayPal password. Enter your password and click “Continue” to verify that you understood the solicitations made in section 5d under the heading titled “Risk Factors”, which read as follows:

“If you do not have an alternative email address registered with PayPal, confirmation of this Agreement will be sent to your primary email address. If you do not receive a confirmation from PayPal within 30 days (21 days for Buyer Protection claims), please call PayPal Customer Service at 1-888-221-1161 before going ahead with the cancellation process.” You must have access to the personal email address associated with your PayPal account in order to complete these steps. When your account is deleted, we will send an email containing instructions on how to log out and who should contact if you have any additional questions or concerns about closing your account. Your PayPal balance may take up to 90 days to be returned to you via check after the deletion of an account; however, it may not be returned if there are no amounts owed to PayPal or if your account has an open dispute related to it. Go back to the main “Profile” page, and click on the link which says “My Account -Delete Account”. Enter your password if prompted and click submit. Once you have deleted your account from this section of the website, you will not be able to log in again. Your account is canceled or deleted once the cancellation confirmation is received by email or your profile disappears from https://www.paypal-update.com/en_CA/.

If you attempt to log in after deletion, you will receive a message stating that the username or password does not match our records, even if it was used for other accounts owned by yourself.

Also note: If you are using PayPal Services to process a transaction on behalf of someone else (e.g., to sell items, receive donations, etc.), the deletion instructions outlined above do not apply to you.

If you used a new account and changed your login information in order to re-create your old Canadian PayPal account starting on or after April 19th, 2011 (when the current legal agreement was signed), you will not be able to access any purchase history from pre-existing Canadian PayPal accounts.
