Adding a new car to the uber app

If my default vehicle gets busy, will I have to cancel my trip?

No, your trips will not be affected even if the default vehicle you chose when creating your account becomes unavailable at any point while requesting for a ride. When this happens, an alternative version of the same type of vehicle (the one closest to you) will be assigned to take you on your requested route instead.

How will I know if the vehicle I have chosen is available?

The availability of the selected ride type (car or motorcycle) can be checked from the ‘Vehicle’ tab on the Uber app.

Does my default vehicle change when I request a new trip in other countries?

Just like with your local trips, you can choose from different vehicle options on your international rides as well. However, due to differences in rider demand and supply across markets, some vehicles may not operate in all locations. In addition, only certain types of cars are allowed to drive within certain cities so make sure that you check this before requesting for your ride. If by any chance an alternative option is assigned to pick you up instead of your default choice, there will be a notification at the bottom of the screen.

How do I change my default vehicle?

To choose a new default vehicle , tap on the menu icon (☰) on your app and go to Settings > Vehicle > Choose Default . Scroll through the list and select the ride type you want to set as your default. Then, just close out of settings by tapping on ‘Done’ in blue text at upper right corner of screen. You will now see this ride type selected first when you request for a trip from your Uber app.

Please note that a change in vehicle is not reflected instantaneously so if you’ve changed your preferred car or motorcycle before requesting an UberX ride, it might still show up as an available option even if it’s not your default. In such cases, you can still request for the ride but be sure to double check that your preferred vehicle is listed under ‘Selected’ on top of the screen before requesting for a trip.

IMPORTANT: The Uber app allows you to select up to two different default vehicles at any one time. (For example, you may choose UberX and UberXL or Car and Motorcycle.) You can switch between these defaults by tapping on the drop down menu next to Vehicle in Settings . If you want to make more than two types of cars (or motorcycles) as your defaults, please log out of the app and sign back in again. This will allow you add a second, third, and even a fourth default ride option. After signing back in you will see your additional defaults at the bottom of the vehicle tab.

You can repeat this process as many times as you wish to create more than four defaults (for example, having UberX and UberXL, Car and Motorcycle or City Car and SUV ). To switch between them you just need to tap on drop down menu next to Vehicle in Settings .

Can I request an uberSELECT on a Friday night?

Yes, you can! Selecting the UberSELECT option will allow you to request for higher-end cars at any time of day or night across all markets. However, since there are limited number of uberSELECT drivers available, it may take some time before your ride is assigned if the current supply is low . During peak hours (such as Friday nights) you may be asked to wait a bit longer until there are vehicles available with this feature.

What happens if my car gets busy on my requested route?

If your chosen default vehicle becomes unavailable while requesting for a ride but there’s another version of the same type of vehicle that has availability , an alternative option will be assigned to you. Please note that alternative options may take longer as they will not necessarily be traveling in the direction of your original destination . In addition, vehicles that does not go to your destination (including uberX , uberXL and UberSELECT ) will be notified on your screen along with their estimated arrival time so you can decide whether or not to accept the trip.

If I choose a uberX as my default car, am I guaranteed to get one?

We strive our best to match your chosen vehicle type with the demand at all times. If you see a notification that there are no UberX cars available in your area , please try another ride type option such as uberXL or select a default vehicle using the drop down menu next to ‘ Vehicle ‘.

Please note that this will not reflect on your account balance and any rides taken will be charged accordingly.

Please also keep in mind that we do not guarantee vehicles for uberX . On days when the demand is high, we may ask you to wait longer until an eligible driver becomes available before your request can be matched .

There may be times where we may need to ask you to wait longer until an eligible driver becomes available before your request can be matched .

If you wish to set defaults for the car types you’d like to request in the future, please go to your user profile and edit your default ride type.

What if I don’t want to set defaults?

If you wish for us to automatically select a vehicle type each time based on our algorithm, then please do not change any of your settings . If you decide that this experience is not what you’re looking for, or are tired of seeing suggestions about cars/pickup locations that doesn’t fit your needs at times , please update your ride preferences as stated above.
