2) Click the ‘Security Key’ button at the bottom of the page, beside the word “Security Keys.”
3) Look for ‘Add Security Key’, then click it.
4) If you get an error saying that you can’t add more than one security key, or if you’re able to select from only two options (device or fob), please contact us at [email protected]
If you delete your account: You will lose all documents stored in your account, including application history, saved resumes and all other documents. Upon pressing the Confirm Deletion button, your account will be deleted 168 hours (7 days) later.
Your username should be your full name as listed on your resume. If you have changed names since the last applying with OPM, please update your records in USAJOBS before starting an application.
Anyone can review submitted applications within 7 days of the application closing date. Applications are sent to hiring agencies and other organizations anywhere in the world. If you apply for a position that is not in your commuting area, it may be forwarded to another agency or organization outside of your commuting area. You will receive an e-mail providing any additional information regarding your application; however, once posted, you should not contact the hiring manager directly as this could result in disqualification. Please do not submit duplicate applications for the same job announcement/opening through USAJOBS or through other sources. Duplicate submissions are a violation of our Terms and Conditions and may delay the processing of your application during our peak application periods. Once you submit a resume or application, it is immediately accessible to the agency and other organizations for which you have applied through USAJOBS. We recommend that you do not disclose information for specific occupations to anyone outside of the government who does not have an official need-to-know without first consulting with OPM’s Designated Agency Ethics Official in your agency or organization.
When applying for jobs using USAJobs, select “Search Jobs” from the top of any page on usajobs.gov and enter search criteria for each job announcement/opening you are interested in applying to separately. You will be able to review all posted jobs before submitting your resume or application for each opening/job announcement. If you have more than one resume saved in USAJOBS, please be sure to select the correct one before submitting it for an opportunity.
Deadlines listed on job announcements are approximate and can change at any time without notice due to unforeseen circumstances that could occur prior to a recruitment closing date (e.g., natural disasters, emergencies, etc.). Recruitment closing dates are posted on the job announcement/opening pages of usajobs.gov as well as temporarily noted in the “Job Announcements” box located above all search results found at Search Jobs. Applicants will receive email notifications alerting them when a job announcement/opening has closed for applications. We recommend that you check your USAJOBS account regularly and frequently visit our website to ensure you are aware of the latest recruitment information.
You can change your personal contact information at any time on your “My USAJobs” account profile page which is located on usajobs.gov. You will need a username and password created when you first applied to a Federal job through USAJOBS. Please note; this process is not applicable if you applied by linking from an agency’s internal career site (e.g., USA JOBS on OPM’s Phoenix service). If so, please submit an inquiry using the Contact Us option from the Help Center on usajobs.gov or log in to your account using your agency’s external secure portal and maintain this information through the internal system instead of USAJOBS.
I have been a successful finalist for a job that I really want. When will I know if there is an extension or other follow-up interviews?
If you were an interviewed finalist, we will contact you by e-mail when additional steps are required in the process; however, keep in mind that we cannot provide information regarding status or results over the phone (see below). If you do not receive word from us within 90 days once you have completed all phases of the hiring process (interviewing/testing), then you may consider your application status to be closed/finalized.
After you have completed all of the required steps in the hiring process, we will contact you by e-mail if you are selected as a finalist for an interview or given instructions on how to follow up with the agency recruiter. Please note that OPM does not provide information about specific applicants’ qualifications, which includes whether they were selected or rejected for employment, over the telephone and encourages applicants to check USAJOBS regularly for any further details regarding their job hunt progress. We recommend checking your e-mail often and monitoring usajobs.gov for announcements of any additional steps in the hiring process.
OPM cannot provide confirmation of details regarding specific applicants’ qualifications; this includes whether or not you are selected for employment (see the response to the previous question). If you need assistance or guidance through the application and/or interview process, please contact your agency’s recruiter. The recruiter’s contact information will be found inside the e-mail provided by that individual and on usajobs.gov if logged in. This person is familiar with the job announcement/opening requirements and can best assist you with all aspects of your application status.
Please contact your agency’s HR team who can assist you with confirming any required documentation or the status of applicants in their hiring process. If you are trying to confirm if a specific application was submitted by a selected candidate, then we encourage agencies to share the position announcement/job ID found at www.usajobs.gov so we may verify whether or not an individual applied for this job posting through USAJobs and what his or her status is within our system. This will help us ensure all aspects of the recruitment requirements were met prior to them being considered an applicant. To gain access to position announcement/job ID, agencies must be logged in to USAJobs using a Federal Enterprise Architecture (FEA) account. Instructions on how to do so can be found here

Each section can range from 0-100. The best way to determine what your score will likely be is to take a free practice exam that contains all the types of questions on the written exam. You can find these here: http://nepaweb.ssa.gov/NEPT/practice_tests.jsp. Each question in each practice test will show you what score that question receives and what percentile it falls into overall, helping you understand how your performance compares with others who have taken this exam previously and received the same or similar scores as you did on that particular type of question(s).
No, you must wait until you have been in your current grade for at least one year. Once you meet that requirement and have held your current grade for at least two years then you can go through update training and be recertified for the next grade level. If these requirements are not met, then we will not waive the waiting periods described above. You may find further information regarding our exam waver policies on usajobs.gov here: http://www.usajobs.gov/Help/working-in-government/clearances/security-clearance
You must submit a new application if you are transferring your certification from one Federal Agency to another. You may find further information regarding our exam waver policies on usajobs.gov here: http://www.usajobs.gov/Help/working-in-government/clearances/security-clearance
You can update or request a new address online by logging into USAJOBS with an FEA account and changing it there. If you do not have an account, please contact customer service at 1-866-606-5358, 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
The maximum score you can receive on any section is 100, and you cannot earn more than 70% of the overall maximum possible score (i.e., 700), for a total of 500 points. The entire test has a minimum passing score of 300; therefore, if your composite (total) score falls below 300, then you have not passed and will not be certified at that level.
