Is my data or account ever at risk from malicious parties? How can I be certain that you won’t leak my information? For example, in case of bankruptcy or hacking. Will there ever be a way to delete an account entirely? The last one is especially important for me because I have not used blender in years and would like to delete what could potentially be a valuable asset (for either party) unless there is a good reason for having it around this long after I stopped using it regularly.

We think our system is as secure as possible for its age, and it has been designed in a way that minimizes the risk of data leaks (both accidental and malicious). However we are aware that security is not an absolute concept, so we are continually working to improve the safety measures of both blender.org and the Blender Cloud

Do you have plans to improve/fix any of the below issues? This list is taken from [4] with some modifications: – Blender crashes when switching between windowed and fullscreen mode on Windows because of outdated OpenGL headers -> no longer reproducible since builds after mid-November 2016 – OSX build doesn’t run at all -> fixed by updating SDL2 library in 0.99.0 release – Windows builds often fail at linking with error LNK1181: cannot open input file -> fixed by updating SDL2 library in 0.99.0 release (incomplete) – Blender sometimes crashes when quitting if the user’s home directory contains non-ASCII characters -> no longer reproducible since builds after mid-November 2016 – Drawing into a texture causes the window to crash if it doesn’t have an active UV layer. This happens because of some forgotten code from the past that the PNG loader uses to disable certain unsafe features when reading PNGs without an active UV layer. It’s not clear if this is fixable at all, but there are some ideas that might help here: https://wiki.blender.org/index.php/Dev:Ref/Tools/buildbot_unstable_v2t – Several compilation errors and warnings, some of which are linked to recent changes in Qt5 (e.g.: QTBUG-61037) -> fixed for the most part – Blender 2.78 crashes when quitting on OSX 10.12 -> fixed by updating SDL2 library in 0.99.0 release – On Windows, hard drive access slows down rendering -> Fixed by exporting render progress bars to a texture with no scaling or transformations enabled, I’m not sure if this specific cause of the slowdown is still present or if it’s been addressed elsewhere as well

What is the best way for new artists to start 3D and/or 3D art, what software to use?

You can start with Blender, of course. There is also a YouTube channel called CG Cookie that has video tutorials for modeling various things in Blender, and they used to have some tutorial videos on other programs as well but don’t anymore.

What are projects you’d like to work on but never make time for? Tip: It’s okay if the project is something impossible or even stupid ๐Ÿ™‚ (Keep in mind though that I severely lack most artistic skills)

Most definitely QuadField v2! In fact, there was actually an experimental implementation of it at one point which was committed before my involvement with a blender (as part of the Google Summer of Code project from the previous year). Unfortunately, I think it was never actually finished as proper implementation and instead is just an empty stub which will definitely need more work from somebody who knows what they’re doing.

How do you decide whether to build or purchase software? Is there any experience that you’d like to share regarding this matter? (Maybe something about building your own 3D renderer vs buying other ones?) Also, do you have any plans for improving Blender’s stability, specifically under OSX where crashes are frequent? You mentioned a few times on the blender developer IRC channel that OpenGL drivers crash occasionally when using glGetError() but I haven’t seen them addressed by you since then. Thanks! ๐Ÿ™‚
