How do I delete my child’s iCloud account?

Answer

In the Family Sharing section of Appleid.apple.com, choose Remove account > Remove and leave the family group after confirmation is provided. If you have a new family that needs to be created, feel free to create one on your own or ask another adult which they already belong to for permissions privileges.

To delete your child’s iCloud account, please follow these steps:

1. Log in to icloud.com using the ID and password for that child’s Apple ID account. If you don’t remember the email address or password for this account, refer to Find My iPhone > Can’t sign in? on appleid.apple.com.

2. Go to Settings > Delete Account. Click Delete Account again (in red type) to confirm your decision. This process shouldn’t take more than a few minutes, but it may take up to 24 hours until all of that child’s data is deleted from iCloud servers.(iCloud Backup)

3. After that, the child’s data will be permanently deleted from iCloud servers and it’ll no longer be possible to access this account with a password or recovery key. However, note the following:

If an Apple device is signed in to this iCloud account using Find My iPhone/iPad/Mac , then that device continues to have access to any of that child’s data until you sign out of Find my iPhone/iPad/Mac.

> If you have devices set up for Family Sharing, someone else may be able to use those devices to access any of this account’s data until everyone involved in Family Sharing deletes all shared items on those devices. For more information about using your family members’ devices with Family Sharing, go to Use Family Sharing.

> If you use the Restrictions feature on your child’s device, that device continues to be restricted until you remove this iCloud account from Restrictions. For more information about using Restrictions, go to Apple Support article HT5017, “How to set up and manage restrictions.”(Restrictions)

4. Select Delete Account again in red type at the bottom of the page to confirm that all data is deleted permanently.(iCloud Backup)

5. After deleting an account, changes are automatically saved, but it may take up to 24 hours for those changes to appear in some places throughout iCloud (such as Find My iPhone/iPad/Mac ). Restoring your Apple ID isn’t possible.(iCloud Backup)

6. If your child has an Apple ID with a different email address, that account will not be affected by this process.

If you later change your mind about deleting the account, go to appleid.apple.com, and log in using the same ID and password that was used for the child’s Apple ID account. Then follow these steps:

1. Go to Settings > View Account.(Apple ID) The Delete Account button will appear at the bottom of the page if it hasn’t already been deleted.(iCloud Backup)

2. Click Edit to change any information or Delete Account again (in red type) to confirm your decision.(iCloud Backup)

Note: If you can’t delete an Apple ID by following the steps outlined above, please visit Apple Support Communities and search the topic titled “I can’t delete my child’s iCloud account.”
