Then click the Delete button next to “Mobile Web App”. Dear IMVU: I would like my money back for my gift card. It’s still sitting unused on my account because you can’t keep up with demand, or you’re an incompetent tech company, either way, I should be able to get my $5 back. Please help!

Dear IMVU: How do I cancel a mobile subscription when it automatically renews? The charge never showed up on my credit card. Now it is about to auto-renew again. What happened with the money?

IMVU: We have received your request and we are working on getting this resolved for you as soon as possible! Please note that if you had purchased via Paypal, the payment would have gone through our payment provider, however, since you paid by credit card directly with us then the transactions would not show up under your account in Paypal.

How to DELETE IMVU ACCOUNT?

Dear IMVU: I’m trying to cancel my mobile subscription. Please help! I don’t want it anymore?

IMVU: We have received your request and we are working on getting this resolved for you as soon as possible! Please note that if you had purchased via Paypal, the payment would have gone through our payment provider, however, since you paid by credit card directly with us then the transactions would not show up under your account in Paypal.

WOW!!! That is a lot of repetition back at them! Now hopefully they’ll see all this and act. If we were to compare these emails to the Justice System, each company is like someone who murdered another person, but who was acquitted for a lack of evidence or reasonable doubt, then when they commit that same crime again (only more viciously) in public view, the police arrest them and try to get enough evidence together to convict them.

But hey – this time it’s going to be different! The police are not going to let the murderer go free just because some people don’t believe that he did it! He did do it! And now everyone can see his crimes in full action on TV. It’s time for justice — even if there isn’t any left for the dead victim.

What can you do to help?

Contact DonorsChoose and ask them why they are spreading VU’s propaganda that the rumors about IMVU having deceptive ads are all a “misunderstanding.” They should know better than this! Do not just tell them what you think, as I did above – asking for clarification on their response will not make them change their position. You have to call it out! Here’s how: Go to DonorsChoose Dot Org/contact_us/send_feedback or email [email protected] — let them know you’ve heard about IMVUs deceptiveness but want your donation money to go towards *good* causes in education.

Contact Paypal and ask them why they continue to allow IMVU to take money away from their users. In response to my own requests, Paypal replied: “Please note that if you had purchased via Paypal, the payment would have gone through our payment provider, however, since you paid by credit card directly with us then the transactions would not show up under your account in Paypal.” Either they are lying (and don’t seem like the kind of people who would do this) or there is something wrong with their system for accepting payments because I did go through PayPal itself. Contact PayPal and let them know what’s going on – perhaps it will improve their business practices so one day we can all use it again.

Contact the FTC and ask why they are not doing anything to stop this scam. It’s clear that IMVU is breaking the law, yet there have been no reports of legal action against them regarding their deceptive ads. We need these people to enforce existing laws, not make excuses for companies who break them. Contact the Federal Trade Commission and tell them what you know (and where you heard it) about IMVUs’ deceptiveness!

All right everyone – go crazy with this information, we’ve got a lot of work ahead of us in saving our community from these evil schemers?

-Bryan Heiner aka duh_bear on IMVU (@duh_bear) – I wrote this article specifically to be shared with others. Please link to it or share this page via Twitter, forums, Facebook – help us spread the word about what IMVU is doing! Let’s get these people caught and returned to their rightful place in jail.

-IMVU Employee – there are some good people on the IMVU team who don’t know about these scammy practices. If you’ve seen something like this, and want to make a difference, talk to your boss or someone in HR! If we can get enough people together who care about ethics — then maybe things will change for the better at IMVU. But for now, I’d say that it’s best to stay away from working for them until they clean up their act.

Update: DonorsChoose has responded to our request for clarification/explanation of why they have not updated their blog post regarding IMVUs deceptive ads after being notified by users of its inaccuracy. Here’s what they said:

“Thanks for writing. It’s true — many teachers who post on DonorsChoose have mistaken the status of our IMVU project. When we wrote about it, several schools had begun using their donations to virtualize their classrooms. But there was no public announcement, and a few of the schools posting reviews assumed that they were the only ones. We have updated our blog post. Thanks again! Best wishes, Claudia http://www.donorschoose.org “

With this new information in place, I don’t think that DonorsChoose is intentionally trying to spread misleading information regarding IMVUs practices now — so I’d like to continue supporting them by providing feedback when I see teachers claiming that IMVU is a legitimate source for classroom funding.

I hope this helps us all to put an end to IMVUs illegal business practices and save the honest gamers out there from falling victim to them. If you have any additional information about how we can stop these people, please let me know in the comments below.
