Does removing the app from my mobile also stop showing in desktop? [2015]

No, removing your account from mobile still does not unfriend people from Facebook and stop showing up on desktop. To do so, you need to go here: Facebook Account Settings -> Apps -> Messenger and click ‘Deactivate’. However doing so will only turn off your phone from receiving messages via messenger app in future. And if need to get rid off the application completely (the official app not other apps), then scroll down to find the option “Delete App”. You can now fulfill your intention of unfriending people or turning off showing up on friend list on desktop.

However for iPhone/iPad users, this is no longer a solution since its Messenger App is already linked with iMessage which is what Apple calls its messaging service that works across multiple Apple products such as Mac OS X (Apple Messages). So removing the application from your device will also remove your account from using iMessage, meaning you cannot use any messaging service on your iPhone/iPad anymore. To resolve this dilemma the only option now is to rely on Apple Support Forum and ask for a way of deactivating linking between these 2 applications since removing the official Facebook Messenger App can cause some inconvenience in terms of messaging.

You may have noticed that uninstalling messenger app on iOS causes the user profile picture to disappear in mobile chat list but somehow it still shows up if you remove account via Facebook website instead (as shown below).
