How do I delete my old Skype account?

  1. Sign in to your Skype account.
  2. Go to your account settings.
  3. Click Account Settings under the Settings and Preferences heading.
  4. Next to your Microsoft account.
  5. Click the Unlink option.
  6. A confirmation message appears.

You can’t delete your old account, but you can delete all the information associated with it. This includes:

Your profile information (including all personal details and photos), except for any public status updates or Skype contacts you have added.

Any files or messages you’ve saved on Skype servers as part of your Skype In/Out calls.

You won’t be able to sign in with that name again after deleting it, but anyone who already knew this name will still be able to find and contact you from their existing contact list. To remove all the information associated with an account:

1) Go to www.skype.com/account, and sign in if prompted.

2) Select Delete Account at the bottom of the page.

3) Confirm that you want to delete your Skype account by entering your password when requested (the same one you used to create this account), and then selecting Yes, delete my account. You’ll be signed out of Skype automatically after confirming deletion of your account details. If you cancel this process, all data is not deleted and can be recovered later at any time by signing back into Skype on skype.com/account and selecting Delete Account again.

Note: If you have more than one Skype account, you’ll see a list of the accounts you’ve created in your Skype profile prior to deletion. What happens when I delete my account?

After deleting an account, we remove all public profile information associated with that account (such as status updates and photos tagged by this user), except for any Skype contacts who added that username to their contacts list prior to the account being deleted. This means that anyone who added your username as a contact while it was still active will continue to be able to find and chat with you on Skype, even after you have deleted this account.

What happens if I change my mind?

You can’t undo a deletion of an old account – once an account is deleted it’s gone for good! However if you download and install Skype again in the future, you’ll be able to create a new account using your old email address or phone number. Learn how in How do I sign out?

If you delete data associated with an account (such as status updates or photos), they cannot be recovered once removed from our servers. However, if you sign back into Skype on skype.com/account within 30 days of deleting your account, some of your profile information can be recovered.

I want to move my Skype account to a new email address or phone number. What should I do?

If I delete my account, will my contacts be deleted too?

No. Your contacts were only added to your Skype profile after you contacted them – they are not part of the information that is associated with your account on our servers. After deleting an old account (or creating a new one), any new contacts you add to this profile will be stored separately from your previous data.
