A question that many people ask is “How do I delete my Skype account without deleting my account?” Here are some steps on how to do this.
- Go to the Skype website and sign into your email account or create a new one.
- Once you’ve signed in, click on ‘Settings’.
- A dropdown menu will appear with an option for “Account”. Click on it
- From here, you can choose to delete your account or manage your settings.
- If you want to delete the app but keep the account, uncheck “Delete Account”
- And then click ‘Save Changes’ at the bottom of the page.
- You’ll be prompted again if you want to delete just the app or just the account. Click ‘Delete Account & Data’.
- And then click “Continue”.
- Fill in your password to confirm your choice.
- Skype will ask if you’re sure about deleting the account. Click on “Yes, delete it!”
- You’ll receive a confirmation screen when it’s done.

To access your account, go to Settings in the app’s left-side menu. Select Settings from the top left corner. On the right side panel, scroll down and select Close your account. To confirm your account, retype your password.
When you Microsoft deletes your account, all of your chats and files (as well as those shared with you) will be permanently erased. You will no longer have access to any prior chats, files, or discussions.
Click Account settings in the Account details section. Click Unlink next to your Microsoft account ID in the Linked accounts area. A notification appears informing you of what will happen if your Skype ID is unlinked from a Microsoft account. Read it carefully and then make your decision. Select Close Account if you agree.

Once a contact’s account is deleted, it can no longer be seen from the other person’s side. We are following Microsoft’s 60-day waiting period since Skype moved to the Redmond company. The account will still appear on the contact’s end during the 60 days after deletion.
On a PC running Windows 10, you may uninstall Skype in two ways. However, uninstalling Skype does not delete your personal account with the service. If you uninstall Skype but wish to use it again, you must reinstall the most up-to-date version of the program before placing calls.
