How to Deregister Amazon Echo Device

We have 3 options when it comes to deregistering your echo dot.

Method 1: Turning off the device from the Alexa app on your phone. “Alexa, turn off.” Make sure you say Alexa after turning it off. Now check the settings in your Alexa app and see if it’s registered or not. If yes, good job! That’s all there is to it! You can also unplug the Dot altogether for about 45 seconds until goes dark and then plug back in, check settings again just to make sure it’s gone from there too. If no: For some reason, this didn’t work for me and I had to do Method 2: Making a new user profile, logging into that one, turning off my original user profile, and then checking my settings again. If no: Method 3: I usually try to avoid this one, but if your Alexa device gets stuck in a loop of drawing power, you can reach out to Amazon for help. You can contact them by going here.

Depending on which method they had me use, it usually works.

I’ve found that all 3 have their flaws though and occasionally an echo will still show up in the app after making sure it’s completely gone. It only happens every once in a while for me though so don’t worry too much about it!

How do I register for more than one Echo?

This is pretty easy. If you’re setting up more than one echo at home just open the Alexa app, go to settings and tap on devices. From here you can either register another device or change your current registered device.

If a friend of yours has an echo, ask them for the serial number (7 digit string) located at the bottom of their echo. It will start with B0X… For privacy reasons they won’t give out the last three digits though so just tell them that you need it for your account info, sit back and enjoy some background music while they look up their serial number. Once you have it, all you do is go back into settings in your Alexa app and under “devices” add another one!

Can I use my echo dot as a Bluetooth speaker?

This question comes up a lot from people who already have Bluetooth speakers.

The answer is pretty simple: No you can’t. The echo dot doesn’t have the hardware or software needed to connect to another Bluetooth speaker and play audio over it. If that stuff was there, why would other Bluetooth speakers exist?

Here are the steps in your Alexa app on iPhone/iPad/Android for updating your device’s firmware:

* Open Settings -> tap on devices -> select one of your registered devices in here * Now click on “More” (the roof icon) -> Click on “update now” * You will then see a loading screen with a progress bar * Once this disappears your echo dot will restart and have the latest firmware * If you’re having troubles when updating, make sure that your echo dot is connected to a 5v 2.4A power adapter. I’ve come across a few devices which had problems with lower wattage adapters in some older homes with old wiring.
