How to rent DVDs from RedBox in America
How To Get Redbox Movies for Free
You have a lot of options when you want to rent movies. You can go to your local video store, or the grocery store that has a rental section, or even just order from Netflix. But what about Redbox?
Redbox is an option that many people don’t know about because it’s not as popular as other methods of renting movies. However, there are some reasons why you might like using Redbox instead–it’s cheaper than most other methods and offers more variety in what you can rent (from new releases to classics). Learn how to get started with Redbox below!
Put money on your account
The first thing you have to do is put money on your Redbox account so that you can rent movies from the kiosks. Look for a Redbox kiosk in your area and put some dollars into it using a credit card, debit card, or cash. You’ll have to pay for each rental separately, but the price of each movie will depend on when you’re going. You can also save a bit of money by renting more movies at once–for example, if you want to rent three movies at once instead of one, it will only cost $1 extra (four rentals would be $2 extra, and five would be $3 extra).
Look for a Redbox kiosk
Once you’ve put money on your account, it’s time to look for a Redbox kiosk in your area. The Redbox website offers maps of where you can find kiosks near you . Make sure that the map is set to show the location of all kiosks in your area, not just specific ones. Once you have an idea of where they are located, choose which one is closest and pick a movie or two. If you want to rent more than one movie at once, note that there will be an extra charge–for example, if you want to rent three movies instead of one, it’ll cost $1 extra (four rentals would be $2 extra).
Pick up your movie(s)
Pick up your movie or movies at the Redbox kiosk you chose. The rental period is only one night so be sure to bring them back by 9pm on the due date (or 12:01am, depending on where you live). Don’t forget that you’ll have to return them within 24 hours or risk paying additional fees!
If you don’t want to bother having to go out every day and pick up your new rentals, check with friends and family members–and even workmates–to see if anyone is willing to share a membership with you. This way, all of you can rent as many movies as possible for less money than it would cost if everyone had their own membership.
If you need to return a movie before the due date, check with your local store and see if you can drop it off and pick up a new one without paying any extra fees. Some locations charge $1 for this service while others might not charge anything, so it’s always best to call ahead and ask.
Now that you know how to get started using Redbox, what are you waiting for? For less money than most other services offer (including Netflix), renting movies from Redbox is an easy way to save some money on entertainment! And remember–once your rental period is over, be sure to return the movies or risk paying additional fees!
At Redbox Instant, you have three membership options: $6 per month, $8 per month, and $9 per month. For $6 a month, you get streaming access only from a modest collection of movies — more on that later. The monthly cost of the $8 plan is comparable to Netflix’s DVD-by-mail program in which subscribers pay a one-time fee for unlimited viewing plus four rental kiosks each month.
Prepaid debit cards are the answer. Aside from that, Redbox terminals accept standard debit cards as well as Discover, Mastercard, Visa, and American Express credit cards. You can also make transactions using Redbox cash and mobile wallets to use touchless payments.
The Redbox Instant service includes commercials, and renting movies costs money, but there is no monthly charge. Redbox also provides Free On Demand, which lets you watch movies without having to return the film in exchange for a code.
“The nightly fee and tax will be charged for each day you keep a rental. The system will charge the purchase price of the disc (approximately $25 + tax for standard DVDs and $34.50 + tax for Blu-ray™ Discs) 29 days after you return the movie, and it becomes yours to keep.”
