- Go to your “Manage Your Content and Devices” page.
- In the “Your Content” list.
- Select the boxes next to the book(s) you’d like to remove.
- Select Delete.
- Select Yes, delete permanently to confirm.
When you buy a Kindle book it’s automatically archived in your device, even if you delete the file from your computer or e-reader. You can read your Kindle books as long as they are archived on your device. However, when you archive a book, it doesn’t mean that the eBook has been deleted. There is no way to remove permanently an item from your Kindle library – this is why there is no “delete” button on the Kindle itself.
If you want erase items like photos and documents from the device (and free up space) but want keep them somewhere else (like on Dropbox), all you have to do is transfer them using the USB cable or via Wi-Fi. The content will still be visible under the “documents” tab, but it will not take up space on your device.
How to transfer books from computer to Kindle?
To remove files from your Kindle device you have two options: first, you can download them again – or second, rename the file extension so that it is downloaded as a regular text file and doesn’t show up in the standard list of documents accessible from the Kindle.
Step 1 Navigate to Amazon’s Manage Your Content and Devices page with your computer’s browser. Step 2 Locate the title in question and click the “Remove from Device” link next to its entry to delete it permanently from your Kindle library (it will still be visible under the “Docs” section). Also, note that this option will not delete the file from your Kindle library but just remove it from the “shelves” and free up space on your device. Step 3 Navigate to the Documents tab of your Kindle library under Your Content (the number next to “Documents” indicates how many documents are contained in it). Browse through them until you find the file you want to delete permanently and click on its entry.
Step 4 Rename the extension of the file from .mobi to .txt and send a blank document with that name to your device. After that, force sync you Kindle by holding down for 10 seconds or clicking Menu > Sync and Check for Items. The original file should be gone now. Keep in mind that this method is only for personal documents, so don’t try to delete an eBook using it.
How to transfer books from Kindle to computer?
Your last option is backing up your entire Kindle library on a computer and then deleting it from the Amazon cloud by accessing Manage Your Content and Devices page again (you can also use this page instead of navigating through web browsers if you have multiple Kindles or eReaders registered). The added benefit of doing it this way is that once you’ve transferred all your purchases into the computer’s library, the files will be in .epub format, which means they’ll work with other devices like Nooks and iPads (if they’re available as apps) without having to convert them.
How to transfer books from Nook to computer?
Note that if you buy a Kindle book, it will be automatically stored in your account and available on any device or app registered with the same account – even if you delete the book but connect just one other device/app after (in which case the file will be transferred back). So, this is why HTML-based eBooks are better for portability than regular Kindle titles. If you don’t want to read certain items anymore all you have to do is rid yourself of your entire Kindle library following these instructions (keeping that last step in mind) and then download everything again or make sure no devices/apps linked with that account have access to Amazon’s cloud.
However, if you ever want to keep personal documents on your Kindle-branded devices and read them like regular eBooks, simply change the extension of the file from .txt to .mobi before transferring it back using the steps above. If you don’t know how to do that, follow instructions in this guide – they are very straightforward and should work for both Windows and Mac computers. The only difference is the naming convention used – instead of file name format “Book Name (Author).doc” or “My Book Name.pdf”, use “My Book Title (Author).mobi” or just “My Book Title.mobi”.
How to delete old books from Kindle?
If you want to share documents with someone who has a Kindle, simply send the document in .mobi format as an email attachment. You can also use the Send-to-Kindle function if you have an Amazon account (it’s free) and install it on your computer. Just click “email” next to the book you want to send from your desktop manager and enter the recipient’s address, subject and message – this feature is particularly useful if you need to send a lot of files at once since there is no file size restriction for attachments sent through this method.
You can also convert documents stored in other formats like PDF or Word (.doc or .docx) into eBooks using Calibre – software that manages eLibraries and converts eBooks between formats. However
, it won’t work on devices that don’t have a screen or can only read books from a specific format (Kindle Touch for example). If you want to delete the book from your device completely, send an empty document to it with the same name and extension – .mobi if you have a Kindle and .epub or .lit for other eReaders. This will force it to refresh its content without deleting what you’ve already downloaded.
The following illustration explains how files are transferred between devices using Send-to-Kindle:
To do this just tap Menu > Sync & Check For Items and then choose Device in the next screen to access where your personal documents are stored. At first glance, this method may seem complicated and redundant but it’s better than manually transferring files via USB because the process is instant.
How to re-download books from Kindle?
One last thing – if you delete a file from your eReader, it will still be available on your computer unless you completely erase its contents (see above). So, in order to return titles to their rightful place on your Kindle at no extra charge, just go to “Manage Your Content and Devices” menu > “Deliver To” submenu > select Kindle device from the list and then choose items one by one or using Check All option. This way the selected content will be downloaded directly onto your device without having to go through Amazon account.
Which format is better for eBooks: .epub or .mobi?
It depends on what device you have and how avid of an eBook reader you are. If the device in question is a Kindle, then it’s better to send files in mobi format because they can be opened directly – no need for conversion or additional programs. You can also de-register your Kindle from your Amazon account from your PC without uninstalling it so that you can access its library anywhere there is Internet connection through Wi-Fi (or 3G if equipped with this feature). Another good thing about Mobi books is that they are easier to delete since you don’t have to “empty recycle bin”, so to speak. Just go into Manage Your Content and Devices > select the file and hit Delete. Yes, it will still be available on your computer but you won’t see it in the Kindle library – very useful if you download a lot of files and don’t have enough space for all of them at once.
The following guide explains how to register more than one kindle with amazon account: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EgI9zwJ-XR8 . It is quite straightforward, just do not forget to deregister a device before registering another one or Amazon may charge you twice for the same device!
1. Go to your “Manage Your Content and Devices” page.
2. In the “Your Content” list.
3. Select the boxes next to the book(s) you’d like to remove.
4. Select Delete.
5. Select Yes, delete permanently to confirm.
Yes. Amazon Prime membership can provide access to books, movies and TV shows. If you have a Kindle or downloaded the Kindle app, Amazon will let you keep e-books forever. However, some titles also show as available for 3 weeks with any level of membership.
If you delete your Kindle account but have downloaded ebooks into its memory, those books will continue to be available.
