Method 1: Restore a missing OneDrive personal folder using File Explorer

Step 1. Open File Explorer and navigate to C: drive.

Step 2. Right-click on any empty area within the open window and select “New” followed by “Folder”. You will notice that you don’t see your typical user folders such as Desktop, Documents, Pictures, etc. at this point because these contents are stored exclusively on the OneDrive server instead of locally on your PC’s hard disk drive which is why they can’t be accessed from here.

Step 3. Type one of the following names into the newly-created folder name box depending upon what kind of file you are looking for or what folder you are looking for:

Step 4. Click or tap on the “Enter” key. This will open a user location and show you its contents, but remember since it is not stored locally on your PC’s hard disk drive so you need an internet connection to access this file or folder. You can now browse through the list of files and folders inside that particular folder just like you would do with any other local one. If there is a certain file or folder that you want to restore completely back into your computer; double-click or double-tap on it and then click/tap again on the “Restore” button that appears at the bottom.

Step 5. You will now see a prompt asking if you would like to move that specified file or folder back into your primary Documents, Pictures, etc. folders and also change its sharing permissions in order to do so. Just click on “Yes” if you are sure about this.

Method 2: Restore a missing OneDrive personal folder using Windows Explorer or This PC view

If you don’t really use File Explorer as much or not at all, then have no fear! You can also recover any of your lost OneDrive personal folders simply by opening the Libraries section located under This PC view in Windows 10’s File Explorer app for local system users. To do so, just follow the instructions below:

Step 1. Open File Explorer and click on “This PC” from the left-side navigation menu.

Step 2. Now, navigate to below-mentioned location:

C:\Users\<User name>\OneDrive – where < User name > is your login username

Step 3. From here you can either access your OneDrive personal folders when it is connected or if its offline then there won’t be any actual contents visible as shown in the screenshot below:

Step 1. Open the Control Panel and navigate to System and Security > Windows Defender > Virus & Threat Protection settings.
