Drinking our own Champagne: How Woot, an Amazon subsidiary, uses AWS (ARC212)

Woot! “Bag of Crap” Mystery Deal Box Unboxing u0026 Review – you won’t BELIEVE what I got!

Woot was acquired by Amazon back in 2010. That didn’t have to mean the end of Woot as we knew it, but it did. Woot founder Matt Rutledge resigned in the middle of 2012, saying he didn’t fit in at the big online retailer. Here’s the thing:  Amazon is no longer an innovative company and its biggest innovations are happening behind closed doors.

The internet giant has lost sight of one of its core principles: “We sell things.” It doesn’t offer discounts or deals on anything anymore, not even for Prime members; everything is full price with free shipping (which isn’t really a discount). It used to be that if you saw something at Amazon that wasn’t discounted too much, you could count on seeing it again within a month or two for an even better price. Well, no longer.

You see, Amazon’s big innovation is to cut prices so low that other brands don’t stand a chance of competing against them. They’re eating everyone else’s lunch and they can afford to do that because their servers cost $2 billion every year just to run. That’s not cheap, but somehow Jeff Bezos found enough cash in his couch cushions to stuff another $1 billion into the bank account he keeps under his mattress every year which means nobody out there is making money either (well, except for Bezos).

Amazon has been the undisputed king of online shopping for years. But this week, there’s a new kid on the block that might just change that title: Woot! Here are five reasons you should start buying your stuff from them instead of Amazon.

1) They have more items than Amazon does.

2) Their prices are better than Amazon’s sometimes too!

2) You can actually talk to someone on their phone number if you need help or information about an item before ordering it.

3) Their shipping is always free and they don’t charge extra for expedited shipping like some other sites do.

4) If you’re not happy with what you ordered, they’ll give you a refund even if it’s past 30 days, no questions asked.

5) You can get free stuff by following them on Twitter.
