Why do I need to specify my gender when registering an account? What is gender tagging?
TikTok allows you to choose whether you want your profile set as “male-only”, “female only” and more. Gender tagging helps other users on the platform find similar users and content, based on the gender you specify. If you choose not to opt-in for gender tagging, your profile will not appear in any feeds or searches based on your chosen gender. You can also make your account private, which means that it won’t be shown in any search results at all (for people who want to use TikTok without being discovered by their friends).
If you change your mind and decide that you do want to opt-in for gender tagging, please remember that once you select a certain gender, you cannot change it later. Please note that there is no “neutral” option – if an account has specified a non-binary gender identity (e.g., male/female or plus) but has not registered one of the two binary genders, it will be automatically be set as male.
