How do you unscrew a Chromebook?

Answer

  1. Step 1: Keyboard If the bottom case is loose, go to step 3.
  2. Flip over the Chromebook, and remove all Phillips #1 screws.
  3. Remove both rubber pads on the front of the keyboard.
  4. Separate the top case from keyboard by separating at sides then separate enough so there is a gap between them about 5cm wide.
  5. CHROME HOW TO TRANSLATE PAGE (Clear Steps)

It’s a simple question but an important one. The answer could mean the difference between silencing your laptop or losing it to thieves forever.

Google is aware of this issue and has filed a patent that details how its Chromebooks should be made harder to crack open. Unfortunately, the application was only made public recently so there’s no word yet on whether Google has started implementing any new security measures in Chrome OS beyond what we have now—namely, tight integration with Android and automatically updating apps.

In its filing, Google explains that while Chromebooks are generally tamper-proof because they run a stripped-down Linux-based operating system and use flash storage for files rather than a traditional hard drive, their hardware can still fall prey to anyone with a screwdriver. And in practice, that’s exactly what hackers have done: They’ve cracked and stolen hundreds of end-user Chromebooks from K-12 schools across the country.

How To Remove Google Accounts From Chrome

If nothing else, Google will want to prevent this kind of theft before it affects enough users to attract attention from regulators or lawmakers. The company already has plenty on its plate though—most notably, integrating Android apps into Chrome OS so they can run alongside webpages and be updated as easily as regular software. Google even demonstrated how this would work at an event in September 2015.

The filing was submitted on December 14th of last year but wasn’t published until May 4th. At least one answer is clear in all this: If Google ever does start implementing tamper-proof security measures, it will do so without screwing us over.
